In 2016, Chinese, Japanese and Korean enterprises seized the highland of the third generation display technology and directly faced the competition of AMOLED industry
According to the prediction of IHS, the market research organization, by 2018, the share of Chinese manufacturers in AMOLED market will jump from 2% in 2015 to 15%. A large number of Chinese enterprises, including BOE, csot and Tianma, are making a series of investment plans in the field of AMOLED to seize this market in the near future.
In the TV industry, CRT is regarded as the first generation of TV display technology, and LED is regarded as the second generation of technology. In the view of more people, AMOLED will be the third generation of display technology leading industrial change.
In addition, AMOLED is not limited to the television industry. AMOLED technology is mature in small-size electronic devices such as smart watches and mobile phones. With the development of technology, large-size AMOLED has also made a breakthrough. Based on the advantages brought by self illumination, AMOLED screen can not only achieve extreme ultra-thin within 1mm, but also realize future display forms such as crimping, folding, transparency and double-sided display. In theory, AMOLED screen can be attached to any transparent or irregular object surface to create a future world of "display everywhere".
It is understood that Korean enterprises currently occupy 90% of the AMOLED market in the world. However, according to the decline of Korean enterprises in the LCD panel field, analysts predict that the catch-up from Chinese competitors will gradually make Korean enterprises step down the AMOLED altar and divert market share from Chinese enterprises.
The most typical case is LGD, LG Display's largest TV panel manufacturer in the world. But in the fourth quarter of 2015, the company recorded a profit of 60 billion 620 million won (US $50 million 490 thousand), which has slumped 90% in the same period last year. The profit slump mainly resulted from the rapid increase in the Chinese mainland's panel production capacity and the continuous decline in the price of the panel market.
Therefore, Chinese enterprises speed up the layout of AMOLED industry and market, which is likely to make Korean enterprises have to face fierce competition from Chinese manufacturers in AMOLED field again.
As for the future trend of AMOLED, Hao Yabin, vice president and Secretary General of China electronic video industry association, previously said that AMOLED represents the direction of color TV progress with independent self luminous characteristics and flexible and crimpable materials. Chinese enterprises must correctly understand the industrial development trend, We should not deny the advanced nature of AMOLED technology and its development trend because of the lack of industrial chain advantage.
In 2018, BOE is likely to become the third largest LCD panel manufacturer in the world after Samsung and LG. BOE currently plans and has built a total of 10 panel lines, including LCD panel 4.5 generation line, 5 generation line, 6 generation line, 10.5 generation line, 4 8.5 generation lines, 5.5 generation AMOLED line and 6 generation AMOLED line.
TCL Group's "China Star" Huaxing optoelectronics. Guokai development fund Co., Ltd. plans to increase the capital of Huaxing optoelectronics and subscribe for the newly increased registered capital of Huaxing optoelectronics with RMB 1 billion in cash. The investment money will be used for the construction of the 8th.5 generation TFT-LCD (including oxide semiconductor and AMOLED) production line of Huaxing optoelectronics.
In addition, it was reported in the market earlier that Apple would also replace AMOLED for iPhone on a large scale in a few years. Apple's intervention also gave more AMOLED material manufacturers and suppliers new hope of profit, which is expected to contribute to the collective explosive growth of AMOLED upstream, middle and downstream industries.
China's BOE a, Huaxing optoelectronics, South Korea's top two, and Japan's AMOLED (a joint venture of Sony, Panasonic and JDI) are planning to seize the third-generation AMOLED panel technology and global voice.
